How to Treat Bad Breath
59This is a subject that affects a lot of people and is embarrassing to talk about. There are basically four types of bad breath.
1) Bad breathe caused by something you ate or smoking. Like garlic, cheese, sardines cigarettes
2) Bad Breath caused by tooth decay or gum disease
3) Bad Breath caused by bacteria on the tongue
4) Bad Breath caused by food deposits in the tonsils
Now there are other causes, but these would be the most common. Number one can be dealt with by brushing your teeth and using mouth wash. This everyone is familiar with.
Number two can temporarily be masked with mouth wash, but mouthwash will not cure the problem you will have to go see a Dentist and have him treat the symptoms. This is something you really don't have a choice with, because if it's not treated it will only get worse.
Number three is probably the most common. Certain bacterias cling to the tongue and build on the surface. Using mouthwash will only mask the smell temporarily, however, this problem can be taken care of fairly easy. You can buy a tongue scraper at most pharmacies that will remove the bacteria by scraping it off. Once the tongue has been cleaned then gargle with mouth wash and rinse. Make sure you scrape as far back as possible. There are over 600 different bacterias in the mouth and more than a few can contribute to bad breath.
Number four this one is quite interesting and a little grouse, but it is something you can treat yourself. If you had your tonsils removed as a kid then you don't have to worry about this one. Anyway what happens here is food deposits get stuck in your tonsils and just basically rot and fester in there. They almost look like crystals of white cheese. Yes they are disgusting and yes they do stink. Here's the good news they can be removed by massaging them out of the tonsils. This is not an easy task since your going to probably trigger your gag reflex until you get some practice. If you don't want to deal with it you can get your Doctor or Dentist to remove them, but its going to cost you an office visit. I included two video below that tell and show you how to remove them. One of the videos is a little gross, but it lets you see exactly what your dealing with.
Now there are other causes such as Diabetes and several other diseases that can cause bad breath, but these would have to be handled through a Doctor.
Some things you can do to help prevent bad breath besides brushing and mouth wash would be:
Chewing sugarless gums which helps keep the mouth moist and usually has some kind of mint odor. Also chewing mint or peppermint can help. Chewing areca nuts or betel leaves is a popular remedy in Asia.
This is just some basic information that can help maybe 80% of the people out there if none of these methods or remedies work for you then you're going to have to visit a Dentist or Doctor to see what the best treatment would be.
